From Babies With Love Announced Winner in UK Social Enterprise Awards 2016

The annual UK Social Enterprise Awards returned on Monday 28 November to recognise the achievements of British social enterprises – businesses that exist to tackle social and environmental problems.  As well as celebrating the work of social enterprises, the Awards recognise organisations that are supporting the growth of the sector - either by incorporating social enterprises into supply chains or by investing in them. The Consumer Facing Award specifically focuses on social enterprises that produce or deliver a retail product or service to the general public.

‘Winning’ character joins From Babies with Love

Award-winning, From Babies with Love - the pioneering baby brand that donates 100% of its profits to orphaned and abandoned children - has added a new ‘winning’ design to its upcoming AW16 collection.

Earlier this year, From Babies with Love teamed-up with Bubble London to host ‘From Babies with Bubble’, where industry experts were invited to design a new character.  The creations were placed on display at the January show, where visitors were invited to vote for their favourite design.  The winning design - The Penguin – was created by Shenan Perera, communications assistant at Social Enterprise UK – a trade body for social enterprises.  

Taking inspiration from Perera’s design, From Babies with Love’s design team have created a rather special new character.  Founder, Cecilia Crossley comments: “It’s been a fun and engaging process from start to finish.  Our designers have taken inspiration from Shenan’s design and I’m delighted by the end results.  The Penguin is such a charming and loveable character, which fits perfectly with the characters in our existing collection”.

Safer bathtimes made possible by Babymoov

Bathtime provides a great opportunity for parents to engage and play with their children, but many can be anxious of the perils associated with water.  

To help alleviate these anxieties, and as part of Child Safety Week (6-12 June), Babymoov has released two innovative NEW products – Aquaseat and Thermolight.

British-made brands are booming: The Brit Pack welcomes six new members in six-months

The first half of 2016 has proven an exciting one for The Brit Pack, having hosted a collaborative space as part of Bubble London’s ‘Homegrown’ fixture in January, and welcoming six new brands on-board. 

The Brit Pack is formed exclusively of brands that both design and manufacture products for the family arena within the UK.  Brands are accepted to The Brit Pack on an invitation basis after undergoing due diligence to ensure the quality of goods on offer and that they are genuine produce of the UK. 

The latest additions to the collective comprise: Scooterpeg, The Little Shoemaker, Avery Row, Willow & Ivy, Panda & Ping and Willa & Bobbin.

Babymoov launch Stress-less Weaning Programme

Babymoov, the baby brand best-known for its innovative, problem-solving products, designed in collaboration with parents, has launched a campaign to ease anxieties and troubleshoot the problems many parents face when embarking on weaning.

Around 7,500 parents a week start to wean their babies, and according to studies, the process of weaning a child is considered one of the main contributors of stress in parents. The questions are endless and although there is a bountiful library of advice available, which can cause confusion amongst parents, especially as these recommendations conflict and change over time.

To combat these anxieties, Babymoov have recruited nutritionist Julia Wolman to offer practical tips and advice on all aspects of the process. Julia says, "Weaning can be a very stressful time for parents and with all the advice available,from different practitioners, websites, books, friends and family members it can sometimes feel like information overload. I'm delighted to have joined the Babymoov team where I will be drawing upon my experience as a registered nutritionist and mum of two to provide support and advice tothe Babymoov Stress-Less Weaning Programme".

The programme will also feature lifestyle bloggers, recruited to showcase their family's weaning journey utilising a range of Babymoov products including the multi-award-winning, Nutribaby and the ultra-compact Light Wood Highchair. LapBaby makes top 10 in Virgin’s #VOOM 2016

With thanks to its customers, From Babies with Love is now supporting over 1,000 children.

From Albania to Angola, Peru to the Philippines, babies and young children across the world are being supported to grow up in loving family homes, through From Babies with Love’s partnership with the charity SOS Children.

For example, baby Monia from Burundi was welcomed in to her new family, when she was just a few months old. Monia's SOS Mother describes her as a sweet and playful baby who loves to be with other people. From Babies with Love supports individual babies like Monia and supports nursery schools in SOS Children’s villages, enabling toddlers to receive early year’s education.

The Brit Pack Comes to Town

The Brit Pack is set to make its debut at this year’s Bubble London (30-31 Jan ’16) – the premium trade show for the children’s sector - where it will take centre-stage in Bubble’s ‘Homegrown’ initiative.

This is the first exhibition undertaken by the collaborative and it will feature six wholly British brands: Lala & Bea, Superlove Merino, History Heroes, Funky Feet Fashions, and NEW brands, Panda & Ping and Willa & Bobbin.  The range on offer will comprise an assortment of homewares, childrenswear, games and gifts that demonstrate the diversity of British manufacturing.

The Brit Pack will be housed in one, clearly identifiable space (Stand: E48) at the exhibition, which will enable visitors to browse with ease, confident in the knowledge that every product on display is genuinely made in Britain.

HRH Bears Gifts for the Future King

On Wednesday 9 December, From Babies with Love founder, Cecilia Crossley, presented HRH The Prince of Wales with Christmas gifts for his grandchildren, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, in the form of the From Babies with Love Bear – an ethical teddy produced in collaboration with Boots.

The presentation was made as a part of the Business in the Community (BiTC) AGM & Annual Leadership Summit, which HRH The Prince of Wales attended in his capacity of President of Business in the Community.  

The From Babies with Love Bear is a teddy quite unlike any other, having been designed in collaboration with Boots to ‘make a difference’ by delivering on an environmental, social and ethical level, whilst bringing about hours of comfort and joy to its owner.

Sisters are doing it for themselves!

Two sisters have joined forces to redefine the wheel on conventional children’s cutlery.  

On May 3rd, they launched a Kickstarter campaign to help make Doddl children’s cutlery a reality for parents worldwide.  

Catherine Dodd and Rosie Phelps hope to solve common mealtime dilemmas with Doddl - a revolutionary and unique range of cutlery designed to help make eating easier for children.

In 2013, with the support of a child development specialist, they undertook extensive research and sample testing. Two-years on and they’ve successfully arrived with the final design: utensils which encourage use of both hands when eating, can be used ambidextrously, and helps children to intuitively use a pincer grip.

Made for small hands, Doddl cutlery provides a  natural progression from baby-led weaning and aims to prepare children to eat independently from as young as 12m.

OmniO Rider: Concept & Innovation Awards Finalist

OmniO Rider is set to make waves at this year’s International Nursery Fair in Harrogate (29 – 31 March).  This unique innovation takes the concept of stroller into a new realm and has already been causing quite a stir, having been selected as a finalist in the Baby Products Association’s (BPA) ‘Concept & Innovation Awards’.

Following an intense presentation, OmniO Rider has successfully been selected as one of two finalists for the ‘Innovation Award’.

The BPA provided an official comment: “There was a very positive reaction to the OmniO Rider and collectively the judges felt that this is a very manoeuvrable pushchair, with the inclusion of its ingenious wheels, which can be folded fluidly and carried with ease when the need arises.  We look forward to seeing the reaction of visitors to Harrogate International Nursery Fair when this is exhibited”.

Holly & Beau and Eggnogg have been shortlisted in this year's prestigious Junior Design Awards.

The  awards showcase the very best in beautiful design, exquisitely crafted products and lifestyle brands for discerning and style conscious parents. 

Two products from Eggnogg's range were shortlisted in the 'Toy Design 3-5yrs' category - 'Colour in Kit Bag' and 'My Little Masterpiece'.  Judges comments included: “A fun project that gives kids the opportunity to wear their artwork with pride!  A brilliant idea to design a project that can be picked-up and worked on wherever you travel” and, “A lovely idea… This would keep kids entertained and is also a nice way of displaying art rather than stuffing it in a drawer”.

Six-year-old inspires global Superhero Girl Doll

UK toymaker, Arklu, is helping to end the dearth of female superheroes available on toy shelves, with the introduction of a NEW superhero outfit, which has been designed by a child for the multi-award-winning Lottie doll.

The ‘Super Lottie’ outfit is the inspiration of six year old Lily, from Ohio, USA, who created the winning design as part of a global competition, independently judged by the Brave Girls Alliance, earlier in the year.

Uniquely, the set marks the first time that a crowd-sourced design by a child has gone into commercial production.

The competition was a result of a campaign launched to demonstrate that girls can be superheroes too.  A poll¹ conducted among parents, demonstrated a severe lack of female representation in the world of super-powers, where, of the top female superhero characters popularised by comic creators and film-makers, not one could be identified by 100% of respondents. In stark contrast, four male superhero characters could be identified by 100% of respondents; Superman, Spiderman, Batman and Hulk.

Girls can be Superheroes too!

Girls can be superheroes too! is the rallying call for a global competition being launched by Arklu, who have teamed up with US non-profit organisation, Brave Girls Want, which will see entrants aged 10 and under asked to design a superhero outfit for the Lottie™  doll.

The Lottie™ ‘Superhero Outfit Design Competition’ provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for one lucky child to see their design come to life, with the winning superhero outfit being manufactured and made commercially available in Autumn 2014. The winning child will also see their original artwork design, first name, age, city and country on the back of the outfit packaging, in addition to winning the entire range of Lottie dolls, accessories and outfits. 

Entering the competition is very straightforward, and requires parental permission:  Parents and guardians are asked to download a colouring page template from the superhero contest app on the Lottie dolls Facebook page so that kids can use this as a starting point for their design, as well as describing the superpower abilities that their design has. Parents are then required to upload their child’s design onto the superhero contest Facebook app and fill in a form to grant parental permission for their child’s entry to be considered for the competition.

When we were first approached by Infasense, we were struck by the ingenuity of their NEW Justafit adjustable onesie – designed to eliminate the hazards posed by conventional, off-the-shelf onesies.
